6.44

釋障中，初辨障，後結之。五障中，近母邑者，數近女。處顯失念者，謂對眾前逢勝顯境。居隱放逸者，獨居屏處縱蕩邪思。通處隱顯由串習力者，由是串習處隱或顯失念放逸。雖勒方便等者，修不淨時邪思上勝心隨淨想。

In explaining the obstacles, first it distinguishes the obstacles, and then concludes them. Among the five obstacles, 'approaching females' means frequently approaching women. 'Losing mindfulness in an overt place' means encountering superior, manifest sensory objects in front of a crowd. 'Heedlessness while staying in concealment' means giving free rein to deviant thoughts when dwelling alone in a secluded place. 'Pervading concealed and overt places due to the power of habituation' means that due to this habituation, in concealed or overt places, one loses mindfulness and is heedless. 'Although applying expedient means...' means that when cultivating impurity, deviant thoughts become dominant and the mind follows the perception of purity.
