慧解脫者，如婆沙說：自有慧解脫依未至定能盡諸漏而不能入根本八定，或有雖入一二三四根本靜慮而不能入四無色定，乃至或有能起八根本定而不能起滅盡解脫。此中亦爾，故云於八解脫未能身證具足安住名慧解脫。

Regarding one liberated by wisdom (prajñāvimukta), as the Vibhāṣā says: there are those liberated by wisdom who, relying on the threshold concentration, are able to exhaust all taints, yet are unable to enter the eight fundamental concentrations; or there are those who, although entering the first, second, third, and fourth fundamental dhyānas, are unable to enter the four formless concentrations; up to there being those who are able to arouse the eight fundamental concentrations, yet are unable to arouse the liberation of cessation. Here it is also like this; hence it says that one who has not yet personally realized and fully dwelled in the eight liberations is called liberated by wisdom.
