Regarding the 'four serene paths': Jing says: The serene paths of the four directions. Bei says: Greed has four kinds: 1. greed for chromatic form; 2. greed for geometric form; 3. greed for personal service; 4. greed for exquisite touch. One cultivates the contemplation of impurity against these four greeds; hence the contemplation of impurity also has four paths, which are the charnel grounds that are quiet and deserted, called 'serene paths.'
