“In order to cut off the entanglements, cultivating the signs of calming, uplifting, and equanimity”: this summarizes the above text. If, while steadying the mind in order to cut off the three evils and cultivate the three goods, the mind sinks, one takes a pure sign and urges the mind on so that it is uplifted. If, due to urging on, the mind becomes excessively agitated, one brings the mind to rest in calm, restraining and steadying the mind. If it is neither agitated nor distracted, the mind of equanimity continues in succession and is able to cut off all entanglements.
