引證中，准婆沙論引三聖教，辨四沙門：一、師子吼經；二、普賢經；三、難陀經。今此證經，當師子吼經，基云：世尊依彼，作如是說乃至於外道沙門婆羅門教，空無所有等者，此中意明四種沙門，世尊依真教有彼作如是說，有其外沙門等教是邪教，乃至壞道亦無所有，要受真戒方生壞故，彼既邪戒，設壞非壞道。

In adducing citations: according to the Vibhāṣā treatise, three noble scriptures are cited to distinguish the four śramaṇas: 1. the Siṃhanāda-sūtra; 2. the Samantabhadra-sūtra; 3. the Nanda-sūtra. The scripture cited here corresponds to the Siṃhanāda-sūtra. Ji said: The World-Honoured One, relying on that, spoke in this manner... up to... "in the teachings of non-Buddhist śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas, they are completely empty and non-existent" and so on: what is meant here is that regarding the four kinds of śramaṇas, the World-Honoured One spoke in this manner because they exist in the true teaching; as for the teachings of outer śramaṇas and the like, they are heterodox teachings, in which even the corrupting path does not exist at all, because only by receiving true precepts can corruption arise; since theirs are heterodox precepts, even if broken, they do not constitute a corrupting path.
