初辨不淨觀者，尋思六事，於中云惡臭生臭者，泰云：如食至熟名惡臭，未至熟位名生臭。基云：變壞故臭，名為惡臭，如糞穢等。纔生便臭，名為生臭，如薤蒜等。

First, in distinguishing the contemplation of impurity: in investigating the six objects, regarding the mention of 'vile stench and raw stench', Tai says: Stench when food has reached cooking is called vile stench; before it has reached the cooked state, it is called raw stench. Ji says: Stench due to transformation and decay is called vile stench, such as feces and filth; stench as soon as it is generated is called raw stench, such as shallots and garlic.
