In the doctrine: the "notion of marklessness" means not seeing the ten marks of form and so on in oneself or others. The "notion of non-conceptualization" means, by contemplating the corpse, no longer conceptualizing the eight kinds of discrimination such as greed, malice, and cruelty. The "notion of tranquility" means, by contemplating the corpse, secondary afflictions and the like do not arise, thereby forming the notion of tranquility. The "notion of inactivity" means, by contemplating the corpse and not seeing the ten marks, forming the characteristic of being without hasty activity. The "characteristic of being without yearning and without restlessness" means, by contemplating the corpse, no longer conceptualizing investigations into relatives and the like, forming [a state] free from yearning and restlessness and detached from all burning afflictions.
