From "Moreover, it is not by cultivating... up to ...soon after, one again causes the mind to become inwardly tranquil": this clarifies that it is not that observing the blue-bruised state of one corpse means observing two corpses, and so on up to successively observing all corpses individually. Since one does not need to observe them in that way, what is the method of contemplation? That is, as soon as one arouses resolute intention regarding the blue-bruised state of a single corpse, one should immediately withdraw the mind, not observe the blue-bruised state, and become inwardly tranquil. Next, progressing further to observe the blue-bruised state of two corpses, one again immediately withdraws the mind and does not observe the blue-bruised state, up to observing all blue-bruised states and again immediately withdrawing the mind. When one finds joy, clarity, and purity in this focal mark, free of all agitation, without straining with effort—at that very point, one should arouse resolute intention regarding such corpses.
