一解：此假設言也，無種姓人設遇善友發心修行亦不能證無上菩提，何況不能發心行等。第二解云：無種姓人設從福分善種發心修行，以是有漏，終不能得無上菩提。第三解云：此據二乘無大乘種姓，雖從二乘無漏種姓發二乘心勤修二乘加行，終不能得無上菩提。

One explanation: These are hypothetical words. If a person without gotra even encountered a good spiritual friend and generated the aspiration to practice, they still could not realize unexcelled awakening, not to mention that they cannot even generate the aspiration, practice, and so on. The second explanation says: If a person without gotra, based on meritorious wholesome seeds, generates the aspiration to practice, because it is tainted, they ultimately cannot attain unexcelled awakening. The third explanation says: This is spoken in terms of the two vehicles who lack the Mahāyāna gotra; although relying on the taintless gotra of the two vehicles they generate the mind of the two vehicles and diligently cultivate the preparatory praxis of the two vehicles, they ultimately cannot attain unexcelled awakening.
