基云：本種姓習種姓，如新舊三義隨所應立之。有人言：護法菩薩取地上名習不然，地前十信即生無漏種故，生彼種時名習種姓，隨增說生。護月論師義別，唯勝軍師本種姓於所知障可斷義用立之，習姓即十信時，取有漏聞思等種是。

Kuiji said: As for the original gotra and cultivated gotra, they should be established according to the new and old three explanations as appropriate. Someone said: Bodhisattva Dharmapāla took the stages above to be called 'cultivated'; this is not so, because prior to the stages, at the ten stages of faith, taintless seeds are already generated, and when generating those seeds it is called the cultivated gotra, speaking of generation according to increase. Master Candramati's meaning differs. Master Jayasena alone establishes the original gotra based on the function of the severability of the cognitive hindrance; the cultivated gotra is taken at the time of the ten stages of faith as the seeds of hearing, contemplation, and so forth, which are conditioned.
