'Endowed with such virtues' means being associated with the characteristics of the gotra. 'Achieving all wholesome, pure dharmas' summarizes the gotra and its characteristics under the name 'pure dharmas'. The Tripiṭaka Master explains: 'Because of all the gotras possessed by bodhisattvas being endowed with such virtues'—this taken together is the substance of the gotra; within the gotra there are seeds of virtues exceeding the sands of the Ganges, which gather by their innate kind, hence it is said to be 'associated'. The phrase 'achieving all wholesome, pure dharmas' refers to the characteristics of the gotra. Only the passage immediately below accords with the Tripiṭaka Master's explanation. Someone else states: Although 'all the gotras possessed' mentions gotra, it does not yet take it as substance; the nature being associated with such virtues is the characteristic of the gotra, while 'achieving all wholesome, pure dharmas' is the substance of the gotras. 'Therefore, it is able to grant...', and so forth, forms a karmadhāraya compound, concluding that the two kinds of gotras are the causes of the fruit of buddhahood; 'cause' has the meaning of 'holding'. The old masters of the Dichilun say: 'This passage praises the gotra as supreme, inconceivable, and so forth'—this is not so; it now refers to the fruit of buddhahood produced by the gotra as 'supreme', and so on. Tai says: The subtle gotra, because of its ultimate causal connection with the coarse six perfections, can serve as the causal basis for realizing the five [fruits of] life, such as being difficult to attain, which conforms to correct reasoning. If one were to say that the bodhisattva seed serves as the cause of realization for the fruits of the other two vehicles, that would not conform to correct reasoning.
