前中，先問答發起，次舉偈頌，後長行屬當，開五為七：初品之內，自利利他即分為二：成就品亦開為二：一、成就有情；二、成就佛法；三、依舊之自下解中還束七處以為五品，自利利他合解在此，但為向前總標綱要，無多論文，故將品自貫在首題。基云：此開七法應別處彰，今於自他利品首開者，以從菩提分法持首列也，菩提分法持從最後品持得為名。

In the former part, first questions and answers initiate [the topic], next verses are cited, and later the prose matches them, dividing the five into seven: within the first chapter, self-benefit and benefiting others are divided into two; the Chapter on Accomplishment is also divided into two: (1) accomplishing sentient beings, and (2) accomplishing the buddhadharmas; (3) according to the ancient text, the explanations below further bind the seven loci back into five chapters; self-benefit and benefiting others are combined and explained here, but because they previously set forth the general outline and there was not much text, the title of the chapter itself was placed at the head. [Kuai]ji says: 'This division into seven dharmas should properly be revealed elsewhere; that it is now opened at the beginning of the Chapter on Self-Benefit and Benefiting Others is because it is listed at the head of the holding of the bodhipakṣadharma, and the holding of the bodhipakṣadharma takes its name from the final chapter-holding.'
