Ce says: 'As for the sequence of the successive arising of the seven dharmas: the bodhisattva's contemplative practice takes self-benefit and benefiting others as its root, and therefore first explains self-benefit and benefiting others. It is impossible that one who does not abide in the good oneself could cause others to cultivate it; therefore self comes first and other comes after. Practice must rely on principle; therefore after the chapter on self and other, the true reality is explained. Relying on realization, supernormal powers are aroused to cause beings to give rise to faith; therefore after the true reality, the Chapter on Power is explained. Once power and function are accomplished, by principle there must be that which is accomplished; therefore after power, the Chapter on Accomplishment is explained. When a bodhisattva initiates practice, benefiting beings comes first; therefore benefiting beings is distinguished first and self is explained afterward. In pursuing superior advancement, when the cause is perfected, the fruit must inevitably be attained; therefore after accomplishment, unexcelled awakening is explained.'
