In the former, first it explains: in the first dhyāna, detached from desires and bad, unwholesome phenomena, with investigation and with reflection, having joy and bliss born of detachment, one enters and fully abides in the dhyāna. As for the two desires and two detachments: craving is called the desire that is an affliction, the five sense objects are called desire as affairs; when the counteraction arises, running together with non-craving, it is called associated detachment; turning away from and rejecting the five sense objects is called detachment from the cognitive object. Regarding "What is called detachment: namely, because one has already attained the attention consisting of the culmination of cultivation": attaining the ninth uninterrupted [path], one can detach from all unwholesome phenomena, hence it is called 'detachment'. Regarding "What is called born: having this as cause and condition, immediately arisen": hence it says 'born of detachment'; due to attaining the ninth uninterrupted path, desires and evil are completely detached, and immediately following this one attains the attention of the culmination of cultivation that is the fruition, and concurrently joy and bliss arise.
