Regarding "[then] for one single phenomenon or one single real thing, there would have to be numerous intrinsic natures": if an entity and an entity's nature existed in accordance with [linguistic] convention, then just as a single phenomenon in the world has many names, the entity of the phenomenon would also have to be manifold in accordance with the words. For example, a single eye has many names—it may be called an "eye" or called "the seer"; thus, this single eye would have to possess multiple entities in accordance with its manifold names. Bodhisattva Vasubandhu grasped this intention, stating in the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha* that if names definitely express [entities], then since names are manifold, entities would be manifold.
