Regarding "nor is it definitively obtainable that numerous metaphorical designations designate and express [...], and not other metaphorical designations": the author of the treatise previously posed the objection that if intrinsic nature existed as soon as speech is uttered, then a single phenomenon having many names would have to have multiple entities in accordance with the manifold names uttered. Fearing that the opponent might meet this objection by simply assenting, saying, "In accordance with the manifold names there indeed are multiple entities," he therefore refutes this, saying: It is also not definitively obtainable through multiple metaphorical designations and expressions that multiple entities are obtained—meaning that when the eye is designated metaphorically by one of many names, there is a distinct entity of the eye, and not the names of other faculties, the name "sight", or the name "vision", and so forth down to when the name "vision" is uttered, only the entity of vision exists, and so forth.
