Tai says: For instance, a newborn child does not understand the names of matter such as "pillar", "blue", "yellow", "long", or "short"; therefore, when looking at a pillar at that time, no awareness of blue, yellow, long, or short arises. Later, relying on metaphorical names such as the pillar's blue, yellow, long, or short, this awareness only then arises. If before establishing the name, when seeing the pillar, an awareness of blue, yellow, long, or short ought to arise with respect to the pillar and other material things of the matter phenomena like blue and yellow, yet in reality it does not arise, we know that the eye-consciousness seeing the pillar's paratantra nature is beyond speech, whereas all the superimpositions outside the phenomenon, like blue, yellow, long, and short, are expressible in speech, and the intrinsic nature of conceptualized nature can arise in accordance with speech.
