景云:喻意依實立假實無假無,合云如是要有色等諸法乃至既依處假亦應無等者,且如要有實色所表方有假說能表,非無所表實而有能表假,既就能表破竟。
Jing says: The meaning of the simile is that metaphorical designation is established relying on the real; if the real does not exist, the metaphorical does not exist. Combining it, the text says: "Thus there must be phenomena such as matter [...] since the locus of reliance is absent, the metaphorical designation should also be absent": for instance, there must be real matter that is expressed before there can be a metaphorical designation that expresses it; it is not the case that without the real that is expressed, the metaphorical that expresses it exists. This concludes the refutation based on what expresses.
