備云：通以法執及前方便為初三分別，三分別中計度是也，以能緣生根塵十二故，通根本方便思慧為性，次二分別人執方便計度為性，後三分別總以二執二執方便計度為性。

Bei says: "Universally taking the clinging to phenomena and its preparatory expedients as the first three discriminations; among the three discriminations, reckoning is it, because it is capable of taking as objects and generating the twelve bases of sense faculties and dust; universally, the root and expedients have intention and wisdom as their nature. The next two discriminations have the expedient reckoning of personal clinging as their nature. The last three discriminations take the twofold clinging and the expedient reckoning of the twofold clinging as their nature in general."
