From 'a bodhisattva in this way... up to obtaining five supreme benefits' and so forth down, the third part explains that by obtaining mastery one gains five benefits and five activities. First, the five benefits are explained: 1. attaining tranquility of mind; Ce says: because of obtaining the four cognitions, one dwells happily in the present life and is thus able to remove the coarseness of body and mind, yet because of internal concentration does not sever the afflictions; 2. wondrous wisdom and insight operate regarding the fields of knowledge; 3. for the sake of sentient beings, wandering in birth and death without weariness; 4. being able to skillfully enter into the hidden intentions of the verbal teachings of the Tathāgata; 5. attaining superior resolve in the Mahāyāna, which cannot be stripped away by erroneous conditions. Ce says: the first three are benefits of one's own sphere, and the latter two are superior advancements; among the first three, the first explains concentration, the next wisdom, and the last compassion; among the latter two, the first explains the benefit of penetrating the sacred teachings, and the second explains the benefit of supernormal powers able to defeat non-Buddhists. Next, the five activities are explained; each has two parts: first, explaining the characteristics of the activity; second, concluding with their attribution to the benefits under 'one should know...'. The fourth activity is being able to eliminate the doubts arisen in others, causing them to understand the Buddha-Dharma and transmit it sequentially, which is precisely upholding the wondrous, correct Dharma eye of the Tathāgata to make it abide long; if erroneous teachings confuse the truth, the bodhisattva is then able to distinguish the true and eliminate the false; hence it says: 'Regarding the facsimile true Dharma that can obscure the sacred teachings of the Tathāgata, being able to know, reveal, and correctly eliminate it.'
