The Tripiṭaka Master says: For the noble ones, the latent dispositions that moisten rebirth are fixed, as stated here; for all trainees who have seen the footprints, it is said that latent dispositions moisten rebirth, while the arising of entanglements is unfixed, being either present or absent. The Abhidharma is based on their active arising, so it states that for the two fruits, both entanglements and latent dispositions moisten rebirth. Bei says: For the non-returner, when dying from the desire realm and taking birth in the form realm, rebirth-linking succession occurs solely by latent dispositions, because in the physical basis reliant on the path of dispassion, defilements do not arise. When dying from the first dhyāna and taking birth in a different stage, rebirth-linking succession also occurs through active manifestations, because it is not a physical basis reliant on the path of dispassion.
