Below, it generally distinguishes the sūtra text of the four phrases beginning with the benefit of training in correlation with the third, the basis of the person. Previously it was explained that there are twenty-seven bases of the person; the benefit of training corresponds only to the person who has gone forth, hence it says 'the person who has gone forth is the basis of the person.' 'Furthermore, relying on all persons of dull faculties and so on, one should know that there is rejoicing': among the twenty-seven kinds of persons, there are those who belong to the assembly of those who have gone forth, in whom all four phrases are fully present. Among those who have gone forth, there are sharp and dull faculties; there are also the seven among practice; there are also the three due to aspiration, taking only śrāvakas and not other noble persons; taking only those who are salvageable; and there are also the nine among practice. As stated in the subsequent text, except for householders, persons who cannot be salvaged, persons with obstructions, and persons not free from fetters, taking only humans and not devas, they are all subsumed by the four phrases. Therefore it says: 'Furthermore, relying on all persons of dull faculties and so on, one should know that there is rejoicing.' Passing through the basis of time: regarding 'Furthermore, in past and present times one should rejoice, because of having already realized and because of being in the process of realizing': the monks and others, in the past and present lifetimes, having already realized and being in the process of realizing the three trainings and their fruits, should rejoice. Regarding 'In the present time, initiating demonstration; in the future time, initiating instruction and encouragement': for present monks, initiating demonstration; for future monks, initiating instruction.
