Among karma experiencing neither suffering nor pleasure, regarding particular retributions being only karma of the fourth dhyāna and above: there are two explanations for this. One says: from the third dhyāna and below there are particular retributions of feeling; that this text and the *Abhidharmasamuccaya* do not say there is such karma is because for the most part wholesome karma induces the fruition of pleasant feeling, and only a small part of wholesome karma induces the fruition of equanimity feeling, so it is omitted and not discussed. Were it not so, why would the wholesome karma of the lower stages not obtain that fruit? The second says: from the third dhyāna and below, there is no distinct wholesome karma of equanimity; the fruit of equanimity in the sixth consciousness is tranquil. Because lower karma is gross, the wholesome only invites pleasure; hence there is no fruit of equanimity.
