It should be known that in this..." and so forth: the preceding verse had five gates, stating: "The general presentation and the established divisions, the differences of mental application and marks, the synthesis of the essential tenets of the sūtras, and finally the miscellaneous meanings." The general presentation and the established divisions have already been explained. The third section of the text below combines and explains the two gates of mental application and marks.
