In the first part, Jing says: 'Hearing the exposition of the four noble truths, entering into the Dharma of clear realization, internally reflecting correctly and immediately initiating cultivation—from the five contemplations for stilling the mind up through the highest worldly qualities—in comparison to the clear realization of the truths, are all superior conditions. Cultivations and practices initiated prior to the seven preliminary means are called inferior conditions. If one enters the path of seeing, from right view up to fully cultivating all practices and entering the realm of nirvāṇa without remainder and so forth, this is called true cultivation.'
