In the first part, there are two: first, regarding the three times, one sees only conditioned factors—only dharmas, only events, only causes, and only fruits. Afterwards, relying on the four principles, one investigates: dependent upon ignorance and so forth, there are conditioned factors and so forth. Ignorance has the function of only producing conditioned factors, up to: birth has no nominal function in producing aging and death; there is the authority of the highest teaching which states there is dependent origination; there is the direct perception of the knowledge of suffering and the origin which attests and knows it; against opponents in debate there is inference; whether buddhas appear or do not appear, ignorance conditioning factors and so forth is of this very nature, not due to an agent or experiencer. Herein, there are only dharmas such as ignorance that can lead to dharmas such as conditioned factors, which is dependent origination; how many conditions ignorance and so forth serve toward conditioned factors and so forth is conditionality.
