Regarding "joy and bliss: namely, because one has already attained the desired object and so forth": Jing says that bliss is the feeling of joy, not the mental factor of pliancy; that is, this feeling of joy making the body pleased is called bliss. Ji says: This is based on those of sharp faculties in the ninth path of liberation who are persons entering the fundamental dhyāna, hence it says 'arising of joy and bliss'; if it is a person of dull faculties, the ninth path of liberation resides in the threshold concentration, and only afterwards can they enter the fundamental and give rise to joy and bliss.
