In this chapter, extensively explaining the real objects and wisdom of the two truths is why it is called the 'Chapter on the Meaning of Reality.' Why is the Chapter on Reality explained after self-benefit and other-benefit? Because previously, due to gotra, one is able to generate the aspiration; because of generating the aspiration, one can then initiate practice; and when practice is completed, one goes on to realize the principle. Therefore, it is explained after self-benefit and other-benefit. Alternatively, it may be explained in terms of the pairing of practice and dharma: the preceding chapter explained dharmas with respect to practice, and practice does not arise in isolation but must rely on the principle; therefore, the meaning of reality is analyzed after self-benefit and other-benefit. The chapter sequences of the various sūtras are largely identical in broad outline to this: for instance, the Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] first explains practices such as loving-kindness, compassion, and non-killing, and later explains the four truths, the Tathāgata-nature, and so on.
