第三門中,七例句者,即八轉聲,除第八呼。汎聲有三:一、男;二、女;三、非男女。一一各有八:一、體;二、業;三、具;四、為;五、從;六、屬;七、依;八、呼。今此即是男聲中之一聲,詮目丈夫之七囀聲,如次配屬體、業、具等。如《樞要》說。第八汎聲醞補盧沙,更無別義,今但說七。

In the third section, the "seven paradigm phrases" are the eight case-endings (vibhaktis), excluding the eighth, the vocative. In general nouns, there are three [genders]: first, masculine; second, feminine; third, neuter. Each has eight [cases]: first, nominative (the entity); second, accusative (the action); third, instrumental (the instrument); fourth, dative (for the sake of); fifth, ablative (from); sixth, genitive (belonging to); seventh, locative (in/on); eighth, vocative (calling). Here, this is one nominal form among masculine nouns, expressing the seven vibhaktis designating a man (puruṣa), correlated in order with the nominative, accusative, instrumental, etc., as explained in the *Shuyao*. The eighth general noun, *he puruṣa*, has no distinct meaning, so only seven are mentioned here.
