On sound there are four passages; the third, on the object, has six [parts]: first, identifying the entity; second, distinctions; third, clarifying identity and difference; fourth, difference between pleasant and unpleasant; fifth, difference in designation; sixth, manifesting the domain of the ear and the rest. 'Crying out in jest' refers to the shouting of a leader of entertainers. 'Sound of both causes' refers to a single sound produced by two sets of the four great elements, based on which it is designated as created. The divisions of smell, taste, and tangibles are to be understood like sound; the individual outlines are readily known.
