論曰「以諸菩薩自乘種姓為依止故，為建立故，有所堪任，有大勢力」等者，此第一解種姓持。義曰：今解此文，且為二說：一者、依止種姓故，有堪任、勢力，得成菩提，即以種姓有堪任、勢力，能建立大菩提。二者、以自乘姓為依止故，有所堪任，成正等覺；自乘種姓為能建立故，有大勢力，證大菩提。種姓為此二釋，下解發心、菩提分法中，亦為此二說。又有別異說：種姓持，即法爾種，謂十信前；二、發心持，即十信已去；三、菩提分法持，即十解已去。又說：種姓持，謂十信心；二、發心持，謂十解位；菩提分持，謂十行位。雖為此釋，未有逗留，典誥不憑據，如何依據？又種姓持，謂法爾種；發心持，十信前十萬劫初發心亦得，取初理真發心亦得。

The treatise says: 'Because the bodhisattvas take the gotra of their own vehicle as their support, and as their establishment, they possess capability and possess great power,' and so forth. This is the first explanation of the support of gotra. Explanation: Now explaining this text, there are provisionally two accounts: First, because they rely upon gotra, they possess capability and power to attain the accomplishment of bodhi; that is, because gotra possesses capability and power, it can establish great bodhi. Second, because they take the gotra of their own vehicle as their support, they possess capability to accomplish correct and complete awakening; because the gotra of their own vehicle is that which can establish, they possess great power to realize great bodhi. These two interpretations are made for gotra; below, in explaining generating the aspiration and the factors conducive to awakening, these two accounts are also applied. Furthermore, there is another divergent account: The support of gotra is the naturally existing seed, meaning prior to the ten faiths; second, the support of generating the aspiration is from the ten faiths onward; third, the support of the factors conducive to awakening is from the ten understandings onward. It is also said: The support of gotra refers to the ten minds of faith; second, the support of generating the aspiration refers to the stage of the ten understandings; the support of the bodhipakṣa refers to the stage of the ten practices. Although this interpretation is made, it lacks firm adherence and is not grounded in authoritative texts—how can it be relied upon? Moreover, the support of gotra refers to the naturally existing seed; for the support of generating the aspiration, the initial generating of the aspiration a hundred thousand kalpas prior to the ten faiths is also admissible, or taking the initial true generating of the aspiration in principle is also admissible.
