This is the fourth of the five chapters, and the fifth and sixth of the seven dharmas, namely, the dharmas of maturing sentient beings and maturing one's own buddha-dharmas. Why is it clarified next? Because having directly realized reality, one directly possesses power. What is power? It refers to the six supernormal knowledges and so forth. Having manifested the six supernormal knowledges, what does one wish to do? It does not exceed two intentions: first, maturing sentient beings, which is the intention to benefit others; and maturing buddha-dharmas, which is the intention of self-benefit. Although the Buddha is complete in the virtues of benefiting both self and others, because he contemplates the realm of sentient beings as inexhaustible, these two intentions are necessary. Therefore, following the 'Chapter on Power', the 'Chapter on Maturation' is clarified.
