Regarding the treatise's statement, "The unwholesome states of the category of the obstacle to knowables are three: in the epidermis, in the skin, and in the flesh": Why does the affliction obstacle not speak of being in the epidermis, etc.? The meaning is: afflictions have grades, and are spoken of in terms of three grades; this obstacle is not like that, so it is spoken of as being in the epidermis, etc.
