The treatise states: "Or within it, one should observe the light and the heavy, applying skillful means as is appropriate": this corresponds to the first situation mentioned earlier, as can be known. "Or within it, one should carefully examine and discriminate the individual (pudgala)": this is the second; through carefully examining and discriminating the sentient being before him, speaking gentle and pleasant words, he naturally does not generate distress. "Or within it, one turns with a mind of resolute focus toward the causes of embracing": this is the third; although the material goods are meager, by exerting the mind to focus and distributing them so that they arise everywhere, the causes of embracing turn. "If one makes right vows": this is the fourth; although one lacks the ability to manage tasks universally on their behalf, one makes right vows together that in the future when one does have the power, one will universally assist and support them. "Or within it, one restrains one's mind so that it does not become distracted": this is the fifth; those who experience pleasure mostly become attached to negligence; by holding the mind without distraction, one can be free from dispersal. "Or within it, one settles one's mind": this is the sixth; when incapable of benefiting beings, one settles the mind to act respectfully, with a mind directed towards future fruit. "Fierce contemplation and discernment": this is the seventh; giving rise to a contemplating and discerning mind, one embraces those who can be embraced and relinquishes those who cannot be embraced. "Not giving rise to weariness and patiently enduring on one's own": this is the eighth, as can be known. "Or within it, practicing relinquishment": previously this explained the tenth situation, with the intention that regarding this object, because of relinquishment, one should not generate a mind of attachment, but rather take it and bestow it in giving. Or this explains the seventh situation mentioned earlier, that this sentient being can be relinquished; and the "fierce contemplation and discernment" earlier should be combined to discern the eighth. "Or within it, generating diligent vigor, blazing without indolence": in sequence, this in turn explains the ninth situation mentioned earlier, as can be known. If the preceding "practicing relinquishment" is used in turn to explain the seventh, this would be a combined explanation of the ninth and tenth. "Or within it, skillful means": this explains the antidote to the eleventh mentioned earlier, as can be known. "And practicing correctly": this explains the twelfth mentioned earlier, as can be known. Alternatively, an explanation says: The preceding antidotes are matched as above. From "Or within it, one settles one's mind" down to "patiently enduring on one's own," it explains the antidote to the sixth mentioned earlier. "Or within it, practicing relinquishment" explains the antidote in the seventh phrase. "Or within it, generating diligent vigor, blazing without indolence" explains the three phrases of the eighth, ninth, and tenth. Within this, "vigor" is the first, "blazing" is the second, and "without indolence" is the third, corresponding in sequence to the three. "Or within it, skillful means and practicing correctly" jointly explains the eleventh and twelfth, as can be known from the previous explanation. If one relies on the *Bodhisattvabhūmi-sūtra*, the antidotes here have nine phrases, which cannot be relied upon for collation.
