Regarding the treatise's statement, "How do bodhisattvas benefit others? Bodhisattvas rely on the four means of attraction—namely, giving, loving speech, beneficial action, and common welfare—and are able to grant one part of sentient beings benefit, up to one part ease, and one part both": each of these four means of attraction has benefit and ease. It is also acceptable that although giving them wealth causes them to arouse the aspiration [for bodhi] and so on, which is called benefit, once they obtain the utility of material goods, it is ease, and so on. In this way, up to each possessing both, should be understood accordingly. If not so, benefit and loving speech are said to be benefit according to predominance; the remaining, giving, is ease; and common welfare extends to both, since they join together in wholesome and unwholesome.
