Regarding where the treatise states, “Furthermore, among these sixteen aspects, how many are empty aspects,” etc.: here, together with the Prakaraṇāryavācā and the Abhidharmasamuccaya, there are five different passages: 1. Emptiness subsumes two, the wishless subsumes six, the signless subsumes four, and the four aspects of the path are not subsumed at all, as in this text; 2. Emptiness subsumes two, the wishless subsumes six, the signless subsumes eight, subsuming the aspects of cessation and the path; 3. Emptiness is as in the Prakaraṇāryavācā, and the rest matches this place, as in the Notes on the Abhidharmasamuccaya; 4. By inference from the text below, using the ten knowledges to subsume the three emptineses: emptiness subsumes eight knowledges, excluding conventional knowledge and knowledge of others' minds; the wishless subsumes six knowledges; the signless subsumes five knowledges; emptiness is in terms of severing defilements, and contemplating emptiness and non-self pervades the four truths; 5. The wishless and the like are understood according to the subsumption by the sixteen aspects of the path of seeing of characteristics; when reaching the section on practice, the explanation of the sixty-ninth [fascicle] will be reconciled. Another explanation: according to the five dharmas, the gates of liberation speak of form and so forth, as in the Abhidharmasamuccaya. Thus, the doctrine of the sixteen aspects together with the three gates of liberation has six different passages.
