Where the treatise says, 'human effort means being struck and touched by the earth element,' this is easily understood. 'Difference of receptacle' means that due to differences in the primary receptacle, other forms undergo transformation and arise. Just as when rain falls into the ocean, it turns into a salty taste; if it reaches hell, it turns into fierce fire; if it reaches the ground, it causes grass and trees to grow; if it enters the mouth of an oyster or clam, it becomes a pearl: all these are due to differences of receptacle, which is why derived forms transform and arise. 'Difference of field' means that due to the fertility or barrenness of the land, crops and grains differ in diverse ways; also, due to differences in the ground, the flavors of the earth are each distinct.
