the treatise particularly distinguishes them. "Whether in meditative absorption, arising, or rebirth," and so forth: this means that the afflictions of the path of seeing sometimes arise in these three contexts. 'In meditative absorption' refers to entering and emerging together with a concentrated mind, which is defiled concentration. This is afflictions of discrimination. Just as non-Buddhists conceptualize the past eighty thousand kalpas and so on, resolving their minds to enter concentration, and contemplate it entering from a concentrated mind—this conceptualizing and clinging mind refers to wrong views, etc. This discriminative affliction manifestly enters and emerges with the concentrated mind, or is a conventional designation. 'Arising' refers to arising in a separate, scattered mind. 'Rebirth' refers to taking rebirth there.
