"A shield is called a tortoise": because the sense of covering appears similar, excluding the tail because it has no utility; or a tortoise shield has five utilities, called being similar in five limbs. "Anger is like a female donkey": because a female donkey is wicked by nature and makes much noise while chewing grass; anger is also like this. "Parsimony and jealousy are like congealed blood": similar in being empty, thin, and tasteless; their benefit is also like this. "Ignorance is like a langshi": one says it is like a jackal, being ignorant by nature. It is also like a weasel: when a snake wants to bite it, its tail is very hairy and blocks the snake from biting; ignorance is also like this, obstructing the wisdom of hearing. Also, in the Western countries they speak of 'ear-haired men', whose ear canals have hair that blocks sound, so they cannot hear human speech.
