The treatise says: "Furthermore, there are two kinds of grasping: grasping the sense-bases and objects as self and what belongs to self; and grasping sentient beings, meaning pride of self," and so forth; that is, the clinging and grasping has no separate substance other than the mental application of self and what belongs to self. The above successive alternatives explain the word 'clinging' individually, which can be understood by examining them.
