In the treatise's explanation of courses of action (karmapatha), regarding "It should be known that this karma is also established with five aspects of differentiation": this refers to what is explained below as the root course of action, which is bodily, vocal, and mental karma, three; together with the preliminary expedient (prayoga), four; and the subsequent (pṛṣṭha), five. These are extensively explained as in the earlier eighth [fascicle] of the Maulī Bhūmi. For greed, anger, and so forth, the Hīnayāna has no preliminary expedient, but only the root; now the Mahāyāna also posits preliminary expedients, requiring bodily and vocal karma before they become established as the root. As found in the separate notes on preliminary expedients and so forth, which differ from the seventh [fascicle] of the Abhidharma[-samuccaya-bhāṣya], check this.
