The treatise says, "Eight faculties enter the first dhyāna. As for three, one part can enter and one part cannot enter": the eight are the five beginning with faith, joy, equanimity, and mind, stated by combining the fundamental and preparatory. Saying that they cannot refers to ordinary beings being unable. The pleasure faculty exists in essence, but being subtle it is not mentioned. In the third dhyāna, the eight are the same, distinguished by joy and pleasure. From the fourth upwards, excluding pleasure, there are the remaining seven. The final three can be understood.
