The treatise says, "Relying on the equanimity of singular nature, one relinquishes manifold equanimity": this is equanimity associated with a mind in concentration relinquishing the equanimity of a distracted mind. Relying on the equanimity of the realm of non-conception, one relinquishes the equanimity of singular nature. Another explanation: equanimity of the formless realm only takes the mental base of dharmas as its object, and is called equanimity of singular nature; in the form realm, objects are multiple, so it is called manifold equanimity. Equanimity that takes non-mind as its object is called equanimity without basis; taking mind as its object is called equanimity of singular nature. Now, equanimity that takes the empty mind as its object relinquishes the equanimity that takes the existent mind as its object.
