Regarding the treatise's statement: 'Furthermore, if one thoroughly resolves [the truths] in accordance with that gateway of true principle, one should know that one can enter into the five kinds of detachment from birth (nyāmāvakrānti),' and so forth: in the Western regions, undigested food is called 'crude food' (raw food); just as undigested food remaining in a person's body causes affliction, the afflictions [to be abandoned by] the path of seeing are also like this: remaining in the body, they cause the affliction of birth and death for sentient beings. Now that the affliction of death is severed, it is therefore 'detachment from birth'. This is what was formerly called 'ascending beyond and entering the stage of detachment' (nyāmāvakrānti). All five enter the path of seeing; the first three persons are śrāvakas, the first being gradual, the next two being direct leapers; the pratyekabuddha and bodhisattva can be known; all are called 'detachment from birth'.
