"Nine fetters": Fascicle Eighty-Nine states that they arise based on nine matters, as explained in detail there. Hostility, jealousy, and stinginess are bound solely to the desire realm, and are abandoned through both vision and cultivation; the remaining six pervade the three realms. Thus the *Abhidharmasamuccaya* says that the fetter of attachment refers to craving in the three realms, and so forth. The two headings of adherence and view are spoken of separately because of the distinction between compound and single, and because what is postulated is different. Being jealous of others' glory, one does not esteem the true Dharma; being stingy with material requisites, one does not honor seclusion. Due to these nine kinds, unwholesome deeds are performed extensively while wholesome deeds are not, evil multiplies, suffering is conjoined, and they are difficult to untie—hence they are specifically designated with the name 'fetters.'
