Regarding the nine fetters, the eighty-ninth fascicle states that they arise based on nine matters, as explained in detail there. Malice, envy, and stinginess are bound solely to the desire realm and pervade abandonment by seeing and cultivation; the remaining six pervade all three realms. Therefore the Abhidharmasamuccaya says: The fetter of attachment refers to greed in the three realms, and so forth. Clinging and views are two categories: because the complex and simple are distinct, and what is conceived is distinct, they are stated separately. Envying others' prosperity and not esteeming the true Dharma, or begrudging resources and not abiding by seclusion, are extremely severe faults, and are thus specifically established under the name of fetters.
