綺語中有十二句:初五句名邪舉罪語,即是律中舉罪之者所具五德,次六句名邪說法語,後一句名放逸語。故略結言「三時綺語」。前麁惡語及後綺語究竟者,謂發彼語。或有難言:妄語誑於他,他解成業道;離間破壞他,他壞業道成。答:妄語本誑他,信與不信,但解皆業道;離間本離他,壞與不壞,但解皆業道。
In frivolous talk, there are twelve phrases: the first five phrases are called "speech improperly raising offenses," which are the five virtues possessed by one who raises offenses in the Vinaya; the next six phrases are called "speech improperly preaching the Dharma"; the final phrase is called "heedless speech." Therefore, the summarized conclusion says: "frivolous talk of the three times." The culmination of the preceding harsh speech and the subsequent frivolous talk means uttering those words. Some may object: false speech deceives another, and when the other understands, the path of action is accomplished; divisive speech breaks another apart, and when the other is broken apart, the path of action is accomplished. I reply: false speech fundamentally deceives another; whether they believe it or not, if they merely understand, it is in all cases a path of action; divisive speech fundamentally separates another; whether they are broken apart or not, if they merely understand, it is in all cases a path of action.
