Regarding "Or seeing the alteration of the four great elements" and so forth: hearing Brahmā establish that the great elements are eternal and mind is impermanent, or mind is eternal and the great elements are impermanent, one assents to him; this is called the second view of partial eternalism. Third, devas corrupted by play decease and are born here; fourth, devas corrupted by malice decease and are born here. Having obtained the supernormal knowledge of past abodes, both remember and say: "In those heavens these two things do not exist, hence they are eternal; we have come here, hence we are impermanent." Therefore, these are called the third and fourth views of partial eternalism. Here, because it speaks of views held by those of superior conception who, relying on concentration, obtain recollection of past abodes and remember the phenomena of the form realm, it briefly states the first two and does not state the latter two.
