Under 'short lifespan' in the outflow fruit (niṣyanda-phala), there are ten clauses, which match the ten unwholesome courses of action in sequence. A fruit resembling its cause is called an outflow fruit. Short lifespan is actually a dominant fruit (adhipati-phala), metaphorically called an outflow [fruit]. Regarding 'the outflow of wrong view is an increase in delusion': the Abhidharmasamuccaya states that with all wrong views, delusion is predominant; as for becoming a course of action, it is purely dominant. Question: If so, why is the course of action called wrong view, while the attained fruit is termed an increase in delusion? Answer: An increase in delusion initiates wrong view, and wrong view must entail an increase in delusion; wrong view must have delusion, but having delusion does not necessarily have wrong view. The course of action mentions the dependent factor, stating 'wrong [view]' and not 'delusion'; the attainment of fruit mentions the locus of dependence, stating 'delusion' and not 'wrong view'. The two gates imply each other, letting one know that the course of action is solely wrong view; delusion extends to dull faculties, and therefore is not designated as the course of action.
