「復次，已說安立。當知於此」等者，前頌五門云：總標與安立，作意相差別，攝諸經宗要，最後眾雜義。已解總標、安立，下第三段，合釋作意及相二門。此中所緣即是相故。文分為三：初標起、次別釋、後通辨。此初也。

Regarding "Furthermore, having already explained the establishment, one should know that herein..." and so forth, the previous verse on the five gates stated: "General presentation and establishment, distinctions in the characteristics of attention, subsuming the essential tenets of the sūtras, and finally the miscellaneous meanings." The general presentation and establishment have already been explained; the third section below jointly explains the two gates of attention and characteristics. Here, because the cognitive object (ālambana) is precisely the characteristic, the text is divided into three: first, introducing the topic; next, distinct explanations; afterward, comprehensive analysis. This is the first.
